Men's Basketball Cruises Past Coastal Georgia, 87-73, Advances to TSC Semifinals

For the second straight year, the Keiser men's basketball team has advanced to the Sun Conference Semifinals after cruising past Coastal Georgia, 87-73, Tuesday evening.

How it Happened

First Half
Keiser 43, Coastal Georgia 35
  • The two Sun Conference foes traded blows early before Keiser put together a 7-2 run to take a 12-9 lead at the 14:39 media timeout.
  • Coastal Georgia responded with 13 of the next 19 points to open a 22-18 lead as 10:14 showed on the clock.
  • After an Antwan Claxton jumper evened the score, the Mariners used a 5-0 spurt to take their largest lead of the game, 27-22, with 8:06 left in the half.
  • Keiser answered with a 13-2 run to jump back in front, 35-29, following a Michael Gavin jumper at the 3:22 mark.
  • The Mariners halted the surge briefly, but Keiser closed the half with six of the final eight points to take a 43-35 lead into the break.

Second Half
Keiser 87, Coastal Georgia 73
  • After both sides exchanged baskets to open the second half, Quinton Glaspie sparked a 14-2 run with a bucket plus the foul as Keiser pushed their lead to 18, 67-49.
  • Lott and Claxton paced the Seahawks during the run with nine of the 14 points.
  • Following more back-and-forth action, Coastal Georgia made one final push as they drew within 14, 77-63, thanks to a 7-2 run as 5:37 remained in the contest.
  • Claxton and Darius Bryant delivered the final daggers for Keiser with back-to-back three-pointers to spark an 8-1 run as the Seahawks took their largest lead of the game, 85-64, at the 3:19 mark.
  • Despite Coastal Georgia tallying nine of the final 11 points, Keiser went on to win 87-73 to advance to the Sun Conference Semifinals.
