Behind strong performances from
Chiara De Virgilio and
Angela Denis, the Keiser women's basketball team got back in the win column Saturday afternoon, taking down Sun Conference foe Webber International 53-50.
In the win, Denis matched the school record for rebounds in a game with 20 and pulled down a program-best 14 defensive boards.
With the score tied 26-26 at the 6:57 mark of the third quarter, the Seahawks rattled off 16 of the final 20 points of the period to take a commanding 42-30 lead into the fourth.
Keiser 12, Webber 6
- After Webber jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the opening minute of the contest, Shykim Gillion broke through on the scoreboard for the Seahawks with a jumper.
- Gillion's basket sparked a quick 6-0 surge for the Seahawks as they took their first lead of the afternoon on a Denis layup at the 6:57 mark.
- The Warriors answered with a layup at the other end as the contest reached the first media timeout of the day.
- Out of the stoppage, Keiser tightened the clamps defensively, holding the Warriors scoreless for the final 5:31 of the first quarter.
- During that stretch, the Seahawks used another 6-0 run to take a 12-6 advantage into the second quarter.
- De Virgilio capped off the run with a three-pointer off an assist from Andressa Nascimento.
Keiser 21, Webber 20
- The Warriors opened the second quarter on a 10-2 run to jump back in front, 16-14, as 2:13 showed on the clock.
- A jumper by De Virgilio stopped the bleeding and sparked a 6-0 KU run to put the Seahawks back in front 20-16 with 1:04 left in the half.
- Elise Ellison-Coons contributed four of the six points during the run via the foul line.
- Webber netted four of the final five points of the half to trim the Keiser lead to 21-20 at the break.
Keiser 42, Webber 30
- It was a back-and-forth affair to open the second half as Webber narrowly edged the Seahawks 7-6 in the first three minutes of action.
- With the score knotted at 26-26, Keiser rattled off 16 of the final 20 points of the quarter to take a commanding 42-30 lead into the fourth.
- During the run, Gillion (four points), Kaitlyn Fertig (five points), De Virgilio (three points) and Denis (four points) all found the back of the net for the Seahawks.
Keiser 53, Webber 50
- A 6-0 run to the start the fourth drew the Warriors to within six, 42-36, at the 8:19 mark.
- A triple by De Virgilio stopped the Webber surge momentarily but the Warriors answered with back-to-back baskets to draw within five, 45-40, with 7:02 left in the game.
- Webber registered 10 of the next 16 points to trim the KU advantage to one, 51-50, with just under a minute left to play.
- Out of a Keiser timeout, Ellison-Coons drew the foul underneath and converted both free throw attempts to extend the Seahawks lead to 53-50 with :23 ticks left on the clock.
- Following a missed three-point attempt by the Warriors, Denis was fouled but failed to convert either free throw attempt, leaving the door open for Webber.
- After the missed free throws, the Warriors attempted a three from the left-wing but it bounced off the rim and into the hands of Denis, sealing the 53-50 win for Keiser.

- Keiser improved to 9-3 overall and 3-3 in Sun Conference action with the win.
- The victory snapped a four-game losing streak to the Warriors for the Seahawks.
