Keiser women's tennis team closed out a long, rain-filled day one at the Barry Invitational on Friday afternoon. The Seahawks went 4-1 in singles against Flagler and 2-1 in doubles against the combination of Palm Beach Atlantic and Hillsborough.
The highlights of the day were
Kanon Sorakubo and
Florencia Araya taking down the doubles team of Verena Weindl and Elvira Edstrom from Palm Beach Atlantic, 6-4. Both would go on to pick up wins against Flagler in singles play, with Sorakubo defeating Ebba Rosberg, 6-3, 3-6, 1-0(9) on court No. 3 and Araya winning 6-3, 6-2 over Flagler's Anika Nissen on court four.
Head Coach
Daniel Finn said, "Overall, today had its ups and downs. We didn't play up to our standard in doubles and fell behind early on. In singles, the girls controlled themselves much better and controlled the pace of the game, letting the matches come to us. If today would have been an official match, we would have won 4-3 with all of our wins coming in singles on courts one through four. In the end, we did show improvement today, and tomorrow we have a chance to get right back to work. "
