No. 2 Men's Soccer Wins Third Straight SUN Match; Topples AMU, 4-1

The Keiser Seahawks improved to 3-0-0 in Sun Conference play on Saturday, defeating the Ave Maria Gyrenes, 4-1. Led by Alvaro Jimenez Valera's two goals, the Seahawks moved to 7-1-0 on the year.


.How it Happened
  • Freshman Alvaro Jimenez Valera got the Seahawks on the board in the 14th minute with his third goal of the season. The score was set up by Noah Southwell who was credited with his first assist of the season.
  • Jimenez Valera notched his second goal of the game (and the eventual game-winner) in the 40th minute to give KU a 2-0 advantage. Midfielder Rodrigo Montez Silva was credited with an assist on the score - his first "helper" of the 2021 campaign.
  • The Seahawks went into the break with a two-goal advantage, out-shooting the Gyrenes, 21-1.
  • KU forced AMU goalkeeper Rhys Lawlor to make seven saves in the first 45 minutes of action.
  • AMU cut the Seahawk lead to 2-1 with a score by Nikola Vinski in the 61st minute.
  • The Gyrenes' attempt to comeback fizzled in the 80th minute when KU was awarded a penalty kick - Alejandro Varela Sabio netted his first goal of the season after converting the attempt, giving the Seahawks a 3-1 lead.
  • Sophomore Esteban Aguilera posted his second goal of the season in the 86th minute to put the game away, 4-1. Senior Julius Fassbinder assisted Aguilera on the score for his first assist of the year. 
  • Goalkeeper Felipe Godoy registered his seventh win of the season on Saturday. 
  • For the match, the Seahawks recorded 36 shots (16 on goal) while holding the Gyrenes to four (two on net).

Game Notes
  • With the win, Keiser improved to 15-1-0 all-time versus AMU.
  • With today's game-winning goal, Jimenez Valera becomes the first Seahawk this season with multiple game-winning goals (2). 
  • Saturday win marked the 12th straight victory for Keiser over Ave Maria while improving to a perfect 7-0-0 with the Gyrenes as hosts. 
  • With the win, KU improved to 6-0-0 on the year in games away from Arrigo-Vecellio Field.
  • With two goals on the night, Jimenez Valera now leads the team in goals scored in 2021 with four.
