No. 4 Men's Soccer Uses Six Second-Half Goals to Down Florida Memorial

The Seahawks used six goals in the second half to come away with a 7-1 win over the Florida Memorial Lions on Wednesday.  Luca Malvicini tallied his first collegiate hat-trick in the victory. 


.How it Happened
  • Florida Memorial took a 1-0 lead in the first half with a goal by Maximillian Dreger in the 37th minute.
  • The Seahawks tied the match in the 42nd when Lucas Jacobs struck a shot from the top of the area past goalkeeper Jesus Tovar. The goal was set up by both Lucca Carvalho and Rodrigo Montez Silva who were both credited with assists on the score.
  • The game entered halftime knotted at 1-1. The Seahawks led the Lions in total shots, 7-4, after 45 minutes of play.
  • Alvaro Jimenez Valera netted his then-team-leading fifth goal of the season in the 54th minute to give KU a 2-1 lead. The freshman forward scored off a quick counter set up by Jacobs and Charlie Hennen.
  • The Seahawks extended their lead after Jacobs scored his fifth goal of the season on a penalty kick attempt in the 59th minute.
  • The score became 4-1 in the 67th minute when Montez Silva headed a cross from Jacobs from inside the six-yard box. Jacobs notched his second assist of the match on the score while Luca Malvicini was recorded a helper on the play.
  • Malvicini scored his first of three goals in the 69th minute to make the score 5-1. The freshman forward received a pass from Montez Silva following a turnover by FMU in the middle third. The play was set up by Nicholas Akoto who forced the turnover. Montez Silva received a pass from the sophomore midfielder, who in turn found Malvicini. 
  • Malvicini netted his second goal of the day with a score in the 78th minute. Defender Julius Fassbinder struck a free kick from 20 yards out on net. FMU's Tovar made a diving save but Malvicini found the back of the net with a diving header on the rebound. 
  • The final goal of the day came in the 87th minute as Malvicini tallied his first collegiate hat-trick. The native of Domodossola, Italy, one-timed a shot off a rebound following the save of a blast from Alexander Steen. Both Steen and Jack Casey were credited with assists on the score. 
  • Goalkeeper Dario Salzer (1-0-0) earned his first win of the season.
  • For the game, KU held a 28-8 advantage in total shots and a 16-3 edge in shots on goal.  

Game Notes
  • With the win, Keiser improved to 7-4-1 all-time versus FMU.
  • With today's game-winning goal, Jimenez Valera has scored the last two game-winning goals for the Seahawks . 
  • Wednesday's win marked the fourth straight victory for Keiser over Florida Memorial while improving to 5-1-0 versus the Lions at Arrigo-Vecellio Field. 
  • The win improves Keiser to 2-1-0 at home this season.
  • The win moves KU to 4-0-0 in Sun Conference action this season.
  • With two goals and two assists versus the Lions, Jacobs now leads the Seahawks in points with 15 (5g, 5a).
  • Jacobs is tied with Malvicini and Jimenez Valera for the team lead in goals scored (5).
