Gokey Named to Mid-South Champions of Character Team

Junior defender, Mackenzie Gokey, was selected to the 2020 Mid-South Conference Women's Lacrosse Champions of Character Team, the league office announced on Tuesday morning.

The student-athletes that are honored on the Champions of Character Team were nominated by their coaches based on their leadership on campus and in the community while demonstrating the five core character values of the NAIA.

Head Coach Lauren Bennett said, "Mackenzie consistently puts others before herself and is always thinking of how to better her teammates, friends and co-workers. She has a passion not only for the game of lacrosse but life itself. Her positivity is contagious, and she instantly brightens up any conversation with her energy and charged emotion. Mackenzie is undoubtedly one of the most kind-hearted, caring and thoughtful people I have had the pleasure of coaching."

Gokey's community service included:
  • Taking part in the Juno Beach Park clean up
  • Making and handing out peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to the homeless in West Palm Beach
  • Collecting money and taking donations for the Peggy Adams Animal Shelter
  • Decorating holiday cookies at the Allegro Retirement Home
