Late Free Throws Push Men's Basketball Past Thomas, 67-66

Trailing 66-65, CoreVon Lott's three-point attempt at the buzzer missed off the back iron seemingly ending the contest, but a whistle signaled a technical foul against Thomas giving the Keiser men's basketball team new life. Darius Bryant then knocked in a pair of free throws lifting the Seahawks to a wild 67-66 win over the Night Hawks Saturday afternoon on the road. 

The win snapped the Seahawks two game losing streak.

How it Happened

First Half
Keiser 40, Thomas 36
  • Keiser faced their largest deficit of the day in the opening minutes as the Night Hawks jumped out to an early 9-2 lead at the 16:43 mark.
  • The Seahawks drew within two with 15:37 on the clock following a 7-2 run that was capped off by a Ryan Kroll three-pointer. The senior scored five of the seven points during the run.
  • A Bryant triple with 8:23 remaining in the half gave Keiser their first lead of the afternoon,  25-22.
  • The Night Hawks quickly answered with a 12-2 run to build their lead back to seven, 34-27, with 5:34 left in the half.
  • Keiser dominated the final 5:34 of the half, closing with a 13-2 run to head into the break with the 40-36 advantage.

Second Half
Keiser 67, Thomas 66
  • Thomas opened the second half on a 7-1 run to recapture the lead, 43-41, at the 18:13 mark.
  • With the game knotted up at 47 with 15:06 remaining, Keiser reeled off seven straight points to build their largest lead of the day, 54-47.
  • The Night Hawks scored 12 of the next 17 points, evening the score at 59-59 with 5:23 left in the contest.
  • Thomas took a 66-65 lead with 27 ticks left on the clock and appeared to have the win in hand following a Keiser turnover, but the Nighthawks failed to put away the Seahawks.
  • Following a missed front-end of a one-and-one opportunity for Thomas, Lott pulled down the rebound and got off a good look from deep but missed it off the back iron at the buzzer.
  • However, a late whistle after the final buzzer signaled a technical foul against Thomas, giving the Seahawks new life.
  • The Seahawks capitalized on the Night Hawks mistake as Bryant drained both free throw attempts to give Keiser the 67-66 road win.
  • There were seven lead changes over the final 3:37 of the contest.
