Score: No. 22 Keiser 82, Warner 80
Records: No. 22 Keiser (13-2, 5-0 TSC), Warner (13-4, 2-4 TSC)
Location: Student Life Center, West Palm Beach, Fla.

In their first outing of 2020, No. 22 Keiser picked up a victory at home over Warner in Sun Conference play, 82-80.

The victory came down to the final second of play, and the Seahawks held on to sit atop the Sun Conference standings as the only remaining unbeaten team in conference play.

How it Happened

First Half
No. 22 Keiser 47, Warner 38
  • Marko Orlic hit the game's opening basket with a three-pointer, and the Seahawks went on to establish a 9-2 advantage in the early going.
  • After a 5-0 Warner spurt, Keiser quickly responded with a 5-0 run of their own after a basket and the foul from Mark Gordon and a behind-the-back pass from Orlic to Chance Anderson for a slam.
  • The Royals drew back to within four points, 18-14, but a 13-4 run from Keiser gave the Seahawks a 31-18 lead nearing the midway point of the half.
  • The Seahawks' lead in the opening half would eventually grow to as large as 16 points at the five minute mark, 42-26.
  • Warner was unable to get any closer than nine points for the remainder of the half, and the two sides went into the break with Keiser leading 47-38. Gordon spearheaded the offense for KU, putting in 18 points while hitting seven of his first eight field goal attempts.

Second Half
No. 22 Keiser 82, Warner 80
  • Both teams traded successful offensive trips for most of the second half's first six minutes of play, and KU held a 61-50 lead with 14:16 remaining after a Ryan Kroll three-pointer.
  • The Royals, however, began a 9-0 run to bring the score to 61-59. The surge wasn't halted until Gordon's drive through the paint in transition with 10:20 to play.
  • The Seahawks still clung to a slim lead, 68-66, as the clock showed 7:21. Keiser was able to score six of the game's next points to go in front 74-68, after Malcolm Mabry connected on a three-pointer and Gordon finished off an old-fashioned three-point play.
  • The margin was still six points, 78-72, as the clock hit 3:35 and Gordon once again converted on a layup in transition.
  • Warner made it a single-possession contest with three unanswered points to bring the score to 78-75 with 1:12 still to play.
  • Anderson's dunk on an assist from Mabry with 56 seconds remaining was answered by a Warner lay-in on the other end with a foul, but the Royals came up empty from the charity stripe.
  • The Royals, however, were able to get a stop on Keiser's ensuing possession and eventually executed to find a good look from beyond the arc to tie the game, 80-80, with just 22 seconds left.
  • After a timeout, the Seahawks used most of the remaining clock and worked the ball to Jimmy Sylvain on the left side of the paint.
  • Sylvain was fouled on a jumper with just over one second remaining, and the sophomore calmly sank both free-throws to give KU the 82-80 lead.
  • After back-to-back Keiser timeouts to set their defense, Warner was only able to produce a desperation half-court heave at the horn that fell short, and the Seahawks moved to 5-0 in Sun Conference play with the 82-80 result.

KU Highlights
