KU HIGHLIGHTS
  • Keiser and SCAD joined together to support Lax-4-Life, Inc. a national lacrosse campaign that provides support to programs geared towards adolescent and young adult suicide prevention awareness. Both teams wore T-shirts throughout warmups for the cause, and came together in the center of the field pre-game for a moment of silence for those affected by suicide. Throughout the week and during the game, a total of nearly $400 was raised through generous donations to assist in the Lax-4-Life mission.
  • Se'Anna Beikirch (three goals) and Maria Johnson (two goals and an assist) paced the Keiser attack with three points.
  • Lena Finkelstein scored on two occasions from the Keiser midfield.
  • Margo Reed was excellent defensively, collecting a game-high eight ground balls while also causing two SCAD turnovers.
  • Madalyn Huber finished the game contributing in a number of different areas with four ground balls along with team-highs in both caused turnovers (3) and draw controls (5).
  • Jessica Covell and Mickey Sherrill each played one half, respectively, with the starter Covell leading the way with six saves.

TURNING POINT
No. 1 SCAD was able to jump out to a six-goal advantage, holding Keiser scoreless until the 11:27 mark of the opening half. The Seahawks would go on to challenge the Bees with a valiant comeback effort, but the visitors were able to hold on in the matchup between two of the NAIA's top programs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • SCAD-Savannah had much of the run of play in the early going, and that allowed the Bees to net the game's first six goals while keeping the Seahawks off the scoreboard throughout the course of the opening 18 minutes of play.
  • Valeria Lomaglio halted the Bees' momentum with her lone goal of the game with 11:27 left in the half, and the fellow freshman Finkelstein hit the back of the net moments later with 8:49 on the clock to make it 6-2 SCAD.
  • Back-to-back scores from the Bees pushed the visitors lead right back up to 8-2 before Finkelstein scored once again to make it 8-3 with 2:30 until the halftime whistle.
  • SCAD-Savannah's first half lead grew to as large as seven goals at 10-3 with two goals coming less than a minute apart from each other, but Keiser's Beikirch got into the scoring column with a mere 24 seconds left off a pass from Cat Raymond to send the Seahawks into the break trailing 10-4.
  • The Bees once again started fast, building a nine-goal advantage at 13-4 with the second half's first three markers, all of which were assisted by Jordan Mitchell.
  • Melanie Brown and Johnson were able to draw the Seahawks to within 13-6 with unassisted goals, but SCAD-Savannah continued to counter when Keiser made a push.
  • The Bees made it 14-6 with a tally with 21:49 still to play, but Keiser proceeded to start an impressive run of four consecutive unassisted goals from four different players to make it 14-10 SCAD with 12:18 on the clock, forcing a timeout from the Bees.
  • It was obvious that Keiser had begun to find a rhythm, but SCAD-Savannah took advantage of a man-up opportunity with 9:14 left to push the lead back up to five goals at 15-10.
  • Beikirch completed her hat-trick, but the goal was then answered by SCAD-Savannah with 6:10 remaining to make the score 16-11.
  • The Seahawks pressed forward and continued to put pressure on the No. 1 ranked team in the NAIA, recording the final two goals of the game off the sticks of Jade Dougherty and Kyli Towner. Towner's goal made it 16-13 with 4:05 remaining, still keeping Keiser in the mix to complete the comeback.
  • SCAD-Savannah however had other plans, and were able to hold off Keiser's late-game scoring efforts in the 16-13 road victory.
