No. 2 Women's Tennis Upends Rollins on the Road, 6-1

The No. 2 Keiser women's tennis team had not played in 13 days but came out on top against NCAA Division II, No. 20 Rollins, 6-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Doubles
  • For the third consecutive match, No. 20 Anais Gabriel and Aleksandra Grela gave the Seahawks the early edge in doubles with a 6-1 victory over Savanna Fuller and Marie Debruyn in the third spot.
  • In a battle of ranked teams, the fifth-ranked team of Sarah Schaerer and Lorene Foerste fell to No. 27 tandem of Alexandra Borg and Teresa Kaiser, 6-4, in top spot as the doubles point was tied at 1-1.
  • The Seahawks claimed the lone doubles point after No. 9 Daniela Farfan and Emma Henriksen upended Ola Durzynski and Kaitlynn Groves, 7-5, to lead 1-0 heading into singles.
 
Singles
  • No. 35 Grela extended the advantage to 2-0 after defeating Kaiser, 6-1, 6-0, in the third spot.
  • In the sixth-spot, Henriksen triumphed over Debruyn, 6-2, 6-3, as the Seahawks moved to within one of clinching the match.
  • Keiser clinched the match out of the second slot as No. 7 Gabriel upended Durzynski, 6-3, 6-2.
  • Rollins claimed their first point of the match as Dugleisy Linarez lost her first match as a member of the Seahawks in the No. 3 spot, 6-2, 6-3.
  • However, KU won the final two points of the match including a come from behind victory by Farfan against Borg in the top spot. The junior trailed 3-7 in the tiebreak before winning, 1-0(8) as Keiser won the match, 6-1.
 
 
Coach's Corner
Head Coach Daniel Finn said, "Great energy by the girls today from start to finish. I thought we did a great job of controlling the energy against a solid Rollins team. Honestly, wasn't sure how we would look early on as it's tough to have a two week break between matches. Now we can get back to work and keep focused on a tough stretch of matches coming up."

The Seahawks return to action on Friday, April 12, at the top-ranked team in NCAA Division II, Barry. The match is slated to start at 3:00 p.m.
