Turning Point
The Seahawks netted the first seven points of the overtime before Coastal Georgia went all the way in front with an 8-0 run, which gave the Mariners new life in the extra period and set the stage for the frantic finish.
How it Happened
- Keiser struck first with a basket from Orlic, and the Seahawks proceeded to build a 6-2 edge after a Matic jumper at the 17:04 mark.
- The Seahawks' lead grew to 12-6 after Perkins split a pair of free-throws, but the Mariners scored the next five points to draw within one point and force a Keiser timeout with 11:36 to play until the halftime whistle.
- The timeout worked wonders for the hosts, and Keiser was able to rattle off the next 11 points to establish what would be the largest lead of the half at 12 points, 23-11 with 8:08 on the clock. During that stretch, Orlic continued his fast start with two three-pointers for the Keiser cause.
- Keiser still held an 11 point lead at 31-20 until there was 5:18 until halftime. Coastal Georgia however whittled the deficit down to a single possession with eight consecutive points seemingly in the blink of an eye on two triples and a layup to make it 31-28 with under four minutes until the intermission.
- A 6-2 Keiser response as spearheaded by Perkins pushed the Seahawks back in front 37-30 with 1:33 on the clock, and as it played out Keiser went into the break having never trailed and holding a five point lead, 39-34.
- The Mariners drew to within a single point by producing the second half's first four points, and eventually were able to go in front for the first time in the game, 44-43, with 16:31 on the clock.
- The Coastal Georgia momentum continued, and the visitors built a 50-45 lead with six unanswered points before Orlic canned a jumper to start a 6-0 Keiser run of their own to make it 51-50 Seahawks with 13:25 to play.
- Following a Coastal Georgia three-pointer, Matic scored four straight including a thunderous dunk on the dish from Orlic, and the Mariners elected to call a timeout with 12:35 remaining with Keiser leading 55-53.
- An old-fashioned three-point play from Aaron Gedeon followed by a Perkins jumper brought it to 62-55 Keiser with just under ten minutes to play.
- Keiser led by at least two possessions until the score was 67-64, and after another Orlic triple, the Mariners tied the ball game at 70-70 with 5:16 showing after another 6-0 run
- The Seahawks scored six of the next eight, then the Mariners swung the momentum once again to tie it at 76-76 with 1:38 on the clock.
- Both sides went scoreless in the final possessions of regulation, and the Mariners had the final crack at scoring on what was a frenetic possession. Orlic had a key rejection on a Coastal Georgia layup attempt with eight seconds to play, and a Mariner three-pointer and tip attempt after a scramble went awry to send the teams into overtime.
- Keiser scored the first seven points of overtime to go in front 83-76 with 3:15 to play, a run started by a basket and the foul from Matic to set the tone on the opening possession.
- Coastal Georgia had an answer once again however, as back-to-back three-pointers and a jumper in the paint for the Mariners put the visitors ahead 84-83 with 1:15 on the clock.
- The two sides traded defensive stops, and out of a Keiser timeout with 15 seconds remaining, Orlic was able to find Matic with the entry pass for a tough finish to give the Seahawks the one point lead, 85-84, with just nine seconds remaining.
- Coastal Georgia did not hesitate to push the ball up the floor though, and found a way to get a great look at the basket before Keiser could fully establish its defense. Jaylen Smallwood finished with a layup and the foul in the paint to make it 86-85 Coastal Georgia with just three ticks remaining.
- Smallwood's free-throw rimmed out. Without any timeouts remaining, Marko Radulovic grabbed the rebound and got a quality look at the half court heave to win the game, but it caromed off the backboard and front of the rim at the buzzer to advance Coastal Georgia in the Sun Conference Tournament.
