Women's Basketball Falls to Coastal Georgia, 65-60

The Seahawks dropped their home Sun Conference game to Coastal Georgia 65-60 on Saturday afternoon. Keiser held a five point lead entering the fourth quarter but were unable to hold on against the Mariners.

How it Happened
First Quarter: Keiser 18, Coastal Georgia 19
  • Coastal Georgia raced out to a 6-2 lead before Kelly Meade and Antigonie Sanabria hit back-to-back three-pointers, giving Keiser their first advantage, 8-6, with 6:00 remaining.
  • Following a Nikki Saunders layup, the Mariners scored seven unanswered points, reclaiming a 13-10 lead with 4:10 to go.
  • After trading buckets, Meade drilled a three-pointer to tie the game at 15-15 at the 1:10 mark.
  • Coastal Georgia split a pair at the free throw line before Daniela Barrios hit a three to give Keiser an 18-16 lead with 50 seconds left.
  • The Mariners tallied the final three points of the quarter to lead 19-18.
 
Second Quarter: Keiser 37, Coastal Georgia 27
  • Emily Patton opened the quarter with three free throws to make it 21-19, Keiser.
  • Coastal Georgia scored the next four points but back-to-back three-pointers from Barriors and Meade put the Seahawks on top, 27-23 with 5:10 remaining.
  • The Mariners got as close as two, 29-27, before the Seahawks closed the quarter on an 8-0 run to lead 37-27.

Third Quarter: Keiser 49, Coastal Georgia 44
  • Patton scored the Seahawks opening nine points as they led 46-33 with CCG calling a timeout with 7:25 remaining.
  • Following a two minute dry spell for both teams, the Mariners ran off eight straight points to get within five, 46-41, with 2:40 showing.
  • Each team tallied three points down the stretch with Keiser holding the 49-44 advantage with one quarter to go.
 
Fourth Quarter: Keiser 60, Coastal Georgia 65
  • The Mariners opened the frame on an 8-0 run to jump ahead of the Seahawks, 52-49 with 4:57 to go.
  • Alasjia Dykes briefly halted the run but Coastal Georgia scored five consecutive points, taking their largest lead of the game, 57-51, with 2:30 left.
  • The Seahawks got to within three on two occasions but were unable to get any closer, falling to Coastal Georgia, 65-50.
 
KU Highlights
  • 8: Keiser hit eight three-pointers in the first half, led by three from Barrios and Meade.
  • 11: KU finished with 11 three-pointers in the contest.
  • 12: Patton scored nine of the Seahawks 12 points in the third quarter.
  • 35: KU pulled down 35 rebounds with Long having a game-high 11.
  • 37: For the third straight game, the Seahawks scored 37 points in the opening half.
