Resnati Scores Game-Winner in 2OT Against Campbellsville in NAIA Opening Round

The Keiser men's soccer team defeated the Tigers of Campbellsville in double overtime, 3-2, in game one of the opening round. With the victory, the Seahawks advance to face host, No.6 William Carey tomorrow with the winner moving on to the final site of the NAIA National Tournament.

How it Happened
  • The Seahawks had the games first scoring opportunity in the third minute as Adrian Camacho Castro's shot went just wide of the net.
  • In the 13th and 16th minutes, Ciro Damine and Giorgio Resnati had their shots saved.
  • Keiser broke through in the 41st minute as Sun Conference Freshman of the Year, Camacho Castro netted his 14th goal of the season on a volley off a corner kick from Evan Finnegan to lead 1-0.
  • KU held an 8-7 edge on shots at the halftime break of game one of the opening round game in Hattiesburg, Miss.
  • The Tigers evened the score in the 59th minute as Tom Edge scored on a feed from Azad Iliozer.
  • Five minutes later, KU jumped back in front as Sebastian Espino's shot went off the keepers finger-tips for a 2-1 advantage. Camacho Castro was credited with the assist.
  • However, Campbellsville got the goal back just six minutes later as Gustavo Izzo scored on a pass from Gianluca Contegno.
  • The Seahawks nearly had a third goal in the 80th minute but Camacho Castro's efford was saved.
  • In the final minute, Ramon Talenti came up with a huge save, forcing the game in overtime, tied at 2-2.
  • Keiser tallied the lone shot of the first overtime period as the game shifted to second overtime period.
  • Just three minutes, Resnati won the game as he scored off a great pass from Miguel Cruz Zarraluqui, sending the Seahawks to the second game of the opening round.
 
Game Notes
  • The Seahawks last played in the NAIA opening round in 2008.
  • This was the first-ever meeting between these two programs.
  • Keiser improved to 2-1 at neutral sites this season.
  • Finnegan joined a five-way tie for the season assists record at 12.
  • The Seahawks were outshot by the Tigers 16-14 including an 8-6 differential on shots on goal.
  • Camacho Castro led the game with six shots and two shots on goal.
  • Talenti finished the contest with six saves.
