The top-ranked women's soccer team extinguished No. 4 Southeastern 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon in the Sun Conference Game of the Week. Despite a blistering 90 degrees at kickoff, the Seahawks scored two second half goals to defeat the Fire.
 
How it Happened
  • The Seahawks nearly found the back of the net in the 13th minute but Matilda Ovenberger's shot sailed just above the cross bar.
  • Two minutes later, Ovenberger's shot went off the cross bar and cleared out of play by the Fire defense.
  • Nina Haeberlin had to come up with a big kick save in the 22nd minute as Uchenna Kanu placed a shot on target.
  • Keiser had one last chance to break through with 42 seconds remaining in the half but Larisa Weber's shot went just wide of the post.
  • Southeastern claimed the first goal of the contest in the 50th minute on an own goal.
  • However, the Seahawks equalized just two minutes later as Madeleine Berghult scored on a cross by Maja Henriksson.
  • The Seahawks took their first lead in the 76th minute as Ovenberger played a perfect through ball to Kyoka Koshijima for the sophomore's fourth goal of the season.
 
Game Notes
  • Keiser is 10-1-3 all-time against Southeastern University.
  • This was the second straight year that the Seahawks and Fire were the TSC Game of the Week.
  • These two teams have met in the last three Sun Conference Championship games.
  • The Seahawks are 4-1-0 against teams ranked in the NAIA Coaches Poll.
  • KU did not allow an offensive goal by the Fire as their only goal was an own goal by Keiser.
  • The Seahawks doubled up SEU in shots and shots on goal in today's game.
  • Ovenberger and Koshijima led the game with three shots apiece.
  • Haeberlin finished with two saves in the victory.
