Men's Soccer Tops John Brown 4-1 on Saturday Evening

The Seahawks men's soccer team got back into the winner's column on Saturday evening with a 4-1 victory over John Brown. The Seahawks will now endure an 11-day layoff before kicking off Sun Conference play against Southeastern on Sept. 19.

Stat of the Match
The teams were evenly matched in the shots category but the Seahawks made the most of their attempts by scoring on four of their seven shots on goal.
 
How it Happened
  • Keiser jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the tenth minute as Hannu Tam buried a shot from inside the box off a through ball from Diego Menendez, the senior's first assist of the season.
  • Five minutes later, Ciro Damine doubled the margin as he volleyed the ball into the back of the net off a pair of assists from Joe Rivera and Evan Finnegan.
  • John Brown ruined the shutout in the 50th minute as Goncalo Verissimo headed the ball towards the middle of the box and Micah Hermann volleyed the ball home.
  • The Seahawks got the goal back in the 68th minute when Gontzal Balaguer rocketed a shot into top right corner off a feed by Amine Meski.
  • Tam slammed the door shut in the 86th minute with his second goal of the contest as his shot deflected off the left post and in. Meski was credited with the assist, his sixth of the season.
 
Game Notes
  • Tonight was the first meeting between these two squads.
  • With his seventh assist tonight, Finnegan moved into a four-way tie for fourth in the single-season record book.
  • Keiser held a 5-1 edge on corner kicks.
  • Damine now ranks fifth in most points in a season with 28 (13 goals, 2 assists).
  • Felipe Godoy earned his first collegiate win in goal after making six saves.
  • Tam had a game-best five shots with three coming on target.
