Bonnaud in Singles, Koeng/Ferris in Doubles, Claim ITA Regional Championships

Box Score The Keiser men's tennis team completed the Championship round of the ITA Regional on Saturday evening at Patch Ref Park in Boca Raton, Fla. The Seahawks will now send their singles and doubles teams to the ITA Oracle Cup from Oct. 10-14 at Berry College in Rome, Georgia.

In doubles, Ricardo Ferris/Oliver Koeng took down teammates Anthony Van Rompay/Daniel Luptack 7-6(3), 6-3 to advance to the ITA Oracle Cup.

In singles play, second-seeded Arthur "Boy Wonder" Bonnaud battled for three hours and 43 minutes but in the end, the senior defeated No. 4 and top-seeded Matt Hulme of Coastal Georgia 7-5, 6-7(5), 7-6(5). Hulme saved 12 match points before Bonnaud finally won on the 13th match point. In the first set, Bonnaud broke serve twice at 5-4 to win 7-5. Bonnaud then served for the match in the second-set up 5-3 but was broke and Hulme would eventually win in a tiebreaker. In the third set, Hulme was serving up a break at 4-3 but Bonnaud would break back again. Both players held serve and forced the final set into a tiebreaker at 6-6. Bonnaud was trailing 5-4 with Hulme serving but came up with back-to-back shots to win both points and go up one, 6-5. Bonnaud then served the match out to win 7-5 in the tiebreaker.

Head Coach Daniel Finn said, "Let me start by saying how proud I am of all the boy's doubles team this week as I felt like we played at an extremely high level. Oliver and Riccardo played great doubles all week and truly deserved to be champions. I am Excited to see what they can accomplish in the Oracle cup.

Finn continued, "Lastly though I have to really brag on Arthur. His match today was easily the best college tennis match that I have ever watched in person. Both players played an extremely high level and to be honest neither player deserved to lose. Matt saving 12 match points and for Arthur to finally win on the 13th was honestly incredible to watch. I believe that speaks volumes about Arthur and his character as a true competitor and the way he was able to stay composed and close out that match. Very happy for Arthur and excited to see him compete again in the Oracle Cup in less than 10 days.
