Game Summary:
  • With both teams entering today's divisional matchup sitting at 2-2, it came as no surprise that this game came down to the wire.
  • The first score came with 4:40 left in the first quarter as Edward Waters capped off a seven play drive with a three-yard touchdown run from quarterback Derrick Jones.  However, Keiser's defensive back, Sage Chen-Young blocked the extra point attempt, making the score 6-0.
  • The Seahawks would go three-and-out on their next two drives, the second of which led into the start of the second quarter.
  • With 10:11 remaining in the second quarter, Edward Waters pushed their lead to 9-0 following a 25-yard field goal by Ishmael Sanders.
  • On the very next possession, Keiser quarterback, Eli Mathews connected with wideout, Jamal Polk for a 26-yard touchdown reception, bringing the score to 9-7 at the 9:17 mark in the second quarter.
  • A major turning point in the game occurred on the following offensive possession for Edward Waters. With 4th and 10 at the Keiser 49, the Tiger's punter could not field the snap as Jamarquios Autry scooped up the fumble and went 42-yards to the house to give KU a 14-9 lead with 6:22 left in the first half.
  • The momentum continued in the Seahawks favor as speedy running back, Tyrese Lyons broke free for a 35-yard touchdown run.  After a failed extra point, the score was 20-9 with 3:38 remaining in the second quarter.
  • The first half came to a close when safety, Troy Sloan recorded his first interception of the season, ending what looked like a promising drive by Edward Waters.
  • The first big play of the third quarter came when cornerback, Sage Chen-Young intercepted a pass from Edward Water's quarterback, Roshard Branch.  This was Chen-Young's team-leading fourth interception on the season and gave Keiser's offense the ball at the Edward Water's 25-yard line.
  • However, with first and goal at the Tiger's 10-yard line, Mathew's fumbled the ball which was picked up by opposing safety, Alfredrick Tyson, who returned it 90 yards for a touchdown.  With 8:36 remaining in the third quarter, the score was now 20-16.
  • On the following drive, a fumble by running back, Marques Burgess quickly gave the ball back to Edward Waters who did not waste the opportunity.  Derrick Jones cashed in with a five-yard touchdown run, giving the Tigers a 23-20 lead with 6:30 left in the third quarter. This score would hold as we headed into the final 15 minutes.
  • The first points of the fourth quarter were not scored until there was only 1:17 left on the clock.
  • With 1st and goal on Edward Water's four-yard line, Mathews kept the ball on a read-option and ran in for the score.  After a made extra point, Keiser reclaimed a 27-23 advantage.
  • With a mere 33 seconds left to play, Keiser's offense would take the field to kneel the ball in what seemed like a formality.
  • However, a botched exchange between the quarterback and center led to the Tiger's recovering the fumble and having one last opportunity to score.
  • With little time left, Edward Waters was unable to capitalize on the turnover and the game ended with a final score of Keiser University 27, Edward Waters 23.
