Game Summary:
  • Bluefield was the first team on the board as the Rams recovered a botched punt in the end zone for a touchdown with 7:39 left in the first quarter.
  • For the second straight game, Keiser's opening points came by a field goal as Logan Robinson connected on a 24-yard try, trimming the deficit to 7-3 with 7:01 remaining in the first set.
  • The Rams had a chance to answer with a field goal of their own but Tanner Griffith missed the 35-yard attempt with just under five minutes to go in the opening quarter.
  • In the first series of the second quarter, linebacker Cordell Wiley turned the tables on Bluefield with the first interception of his collegiate career.
  • Keiser could not capitalize on the turnover, however, as Bluefield quarterback Cason Whitt tossed a 75-yard touchdown pass with 11:19 to go in the second quarter, upping their lead to 14-3.
  • Keiser responded by marching the ball down the field, allowing running back, Marques Burgess to put the exclamation point on the drive with a four-yard touchdown run, trimming the score to 14-10 with 10:16 remaining.
  • The Seahawks continued to swing the momentum in their favor as linebacker Marlon Eugene jumped on a loose ball to record the first fumble recovery of his collegiate career with 9:16 remaining in the second quarter.
  • A bit of creative play calling led to Keiser's next score as Eli Mathews completed a 26-yard pass to wide-receiver Jonathan Santos off a flea-flicker, giving KU their first lead of the evening, 17-14 with eight minutes to go in the second half.
  • Eugene struck again with 8:13 to go in the second quarter as he picked off a pass from Carson Whitt at the Bluefield 17 yard line.
  • Keiser was quick to cash in off the turnover as Mathews found Jaylen Arnold in the corner of the end-zone for a touchdown, extending the lead to 24-14.
  • With 1:30 to go in the second half, Matthews hit his go-to target, Arnold for his second touchdown of the game to make it 31-14. This advantage would hold heading into the halftime break.
  • Keiser's defense picked up where they left off as Kade Glenn came up with the fumble recovery on the first possession of the second half.
  • However, it was the Rams that struck first as Griffith connected on a 29-yard field goal with 8:32 to go in the third, cutting the Seahawks advantage to 31-17.
  • A familiar face on Keiser's defense, pass-rush specialist Victor Alvarez Jr., brought down Whitt in the backfield for his third sack of the season.  This pushed the Rams back to their own 30-yard line with 5:55 left in the quarter.
  • With 3:53 remaining in the quarter, the Mathews-to-Arnold connection just could not be contained as the duo hooked up for a third and final time, stretching the margin to 38-17.
  • Keiser's defense began to pile it on as linebacker, Marques Gayot made his presence known by picking off a pass with 3:07 left to go in the third frame.
  • It was defensive back, De'Mardre Bruten's turn to make a big play on defense, recording the fourth interception of the game, giving the ball back to the offense for yet another scoring opportunity.
  • Running back Tyrese Lyons, who had a breakout game for the Seahawks, punched the ball into the end zone from seven yards out to make it 45-17.
  • Defensive linemen, Treykevian Gilbert and Robenson Lafleur capped off a dominant defensive performance for the Seahawks by contributing back-to-back sacks with 9:33 left in the fourth quarter.
  • Neither team would find the end zone again as Keiser moved to 2-0 in their inaugural season with the 45-17 road victory over Bluefield.
