How it Happened
Set One:
Webber came out of the gates fast, claiming a 7-1 advantage and stretching it to 9-2 before the Seahawks came alive. Seward put down a big kill to spark a five-point rally to climb to within three, 10-7. The Warriors pushed the margin out to 14-8 but an Odom kill along with back-to-back attack errors brought the Seahawks to within three again. WIU maintained their advantage until 18-14 and KU used a 7-2 spurt to claim their first lead of the set, 21-20. However, Webber responded with three unanswered points to jump back ahead 23-21, forcing KU to call timeout. The Seahawks were unable to get any closer, dropping the opening set 25-22.
Set Two:
The Warriors got off to another terrific start leading 7-2 and upping the margin to 13-5. The Seahawks got as close as 14-9 on a Seward kill but fell in the set 25-12.
Set Three:
The third set was closely contested with five lead changes and nine ties until a Seward kill began a 5-1 run to lead 14-10. Webber cut the deficit to 16-13 but a
Faryn Salazar kill sprung a 4-1 spurt to go up by six. The Seahawks matched their six-point margin on two other occasions before taking the set, 25-20 and pulling within 2-1 in the match.
Set Four:
Webber jumped out to a 7-2 lead before KU claimed six of the next seven points to tie the set at eight apiece. The Warriors answered right back with an 8-1 run to reclaim a 16-9 lead on the Seahawks. Keiser continued to chip away at the Webber lead until a Seward kill put the Seahawks in front 21-20. The Warriors responded with three straight points to lead 23-21 but Keiser tallied the next four points to have set point at 25-24. However, Webber dug deep and notched the next three points to steal the set, 27-25 and win the match 3-1.
