Keiser Highlights
  • Keiser moves to 8-5 in season openers and 5-2 in openers that are played at home.
  • Today's game marked the first for the Seahawks under first-year head coach, Brook Fordyce.
  • The Seahawks are now 1-2 all-time against Taylor following their four-run loss this afternoon at home.
  • Justin Lara and Miguel Casanueva led the way at the plate as the only Seahawks to have multi-hit performances.
  • Taylor Blatch took the loss on the mound despite striking out four batters over four innings, his first start as a Seahawk.

Turning Point
The turning point of the 2018 season opener occurred when Taylor capped the top of the first inning with a two-run single to center, pushing their advantage to 5-0.

How it Happened
  • A pair of Keiser miscues in the first led to five runs for the Trojans, four of which were unearned.
  • Taylor tacked on a sixth run in the fourth on a throwing error by the right fielder, allowing a runner to score from the third.
  • The Trojans nearly pushed another run across in the fifth with runners on the corners and one out, but shortstop, Casanueva made a big defensive play to get the runner at home.
  • Keiser broke through in the fifth with two runs. Marco Rivera plated the season's first run on a double to left, scoring Casanueva who reached on a single.
  • A one-out walk to Carlos Lopez loaded the bases, and a hit by pitch to Carlos Pena capped the scoring in the inning, 6-2.
  • Taylor came right back with two runs in the sixth to stretch the margin to 8-2 before the Seahawks got a run back in the eighth on a wild pitch.
  • Shane Olive capped the scoring in the bottom of the ninth, as he went deep over the left-center fence, for the first home run of the season.
