Volleyball Drops Both Matches on Day Two of Kickoff Classic

Highlights
The Seahawks won the even sets to send the match into a decisive fifth set but eventually fell to Evangel College 3-2 in game one of the final day of the Concordia kickoff classic. Seniors Amanda Medlock and Lindsey Keegan led the way on offense with 11 kills apiece, while Medlock had a pair of service aces. Samantha Thompson led the defense with five blocks and Abbie Seward had 22 digs.
 
Set One
Evangel held an early 4-1 lead before consecutive kills by Thompson and Seward helped the Seahawks tie it at four-apiece. The set saw three ties ensue before the Crusaders outscored Keiser 6-1 to take a 13-8 advantage. KU got as close as 16-13, but Evangel controlled the remainder of the set, winning, 25-16.

Set Two
With the score tied at four-apiece, a Medlock kill started a 5-0 run to take a 9-4 lead. Evangel climbed to within 13-10, when Keiser responded with a 6-0 spurt, extending the margin to 19-10. After Keiser took their largest lead of the set at 24-14, the Crusaders made one last push, getting to within 24-14, but an attack error gave KU the win.

Set Three
The Crusaders won the first three points before Thompson picked up a pair of kills to get the Seahawks to within 4-3. Following a 5-1 spurt by Evangel, a kill by Eshe Malone along with a kill and service by Medlock cut the deficit to 9-7. However, the Seahawks were unable to get any closer and fell by a final of 25-17.
 
Set Four
Keiser held an early 3-1 lead before Evangel outscored them 8-2 to take their first lead of the set at 9-5. The Seahawks kept battling and finally regained a 15-14 advantage following a kill by Malone. Following three ties and KU leading 19-17, the Crusaders mounted a late comeback behind a 4-1 run to reclaim a 21-20 lead. However, the Seahawks responded in dominating fashion by closing out the set with five unanswered points, highlighted by a pair of kills by Keegan and a set ending ace by Morgan Leff, to win, 25-20.

Set Five
It was all Evangel in the early going of the winner-take-all set as they won the first seven points before Rasheena Mansel got the Seahawks on the board. However, Keiser was unable to rebound and dropped the set, 15-7 and the match, 3-2.

Highlights
The Seahawks dropped their final match of the Concordia Ann Arbor kickoff classic to Rochester College 3-0. Keiser hit a match best .217 in the second set and were led overall by Mansel's seven kills. Thompson notched a match high three kills while Seward again led the way in digs with 18.
 
Set One
Rochester led the first set until the Seahawks were able to tie it at 12-12. However, the Warriors answered with five straight points to regain a 17-12 lead and forced Keiser into a timeout. KU got as close as 19-17 but dropped the set, 25-18.
 
Set Two
Mansel scored the opening point of the set off an assist by Stuive, but Rochester regained control and led by as many seven at 24-18. Keiser would not go down without a fight, as Patricia Costa helped spark a 4-0 run to get within 24-22, but the Warriors held off KU in the end, winning 25-22.
 
Set Three
Three kills by Mansel and a service ace by Miranda Jickell gave KU an early 4-3 advantage. Rochester came right back with a 6-1 run to claim their first lead of the set at 9-5. Keiser closed to within 9-8 but a Warriors kill jump-started a 5-0 run to extend their lead to 14-8 and forcing the Seahawks into a timeout. With Rochester needed just one more point and leading 24-17, a Malone kill sparked a late 4-0 push by the Seahawks to get within 24-21. However, an attack error by the Seahawks ended the match.

Head Coach Chris Taylor said, "Not the results we were hoping for today. However, this tournament has shown us what we can do as a team and how we need to compete day in and day out. This team is definitely finding themselves and we will look forward to getting back to work tomorrow and continuing to grow."

Up Next
Keiser will take two days off before heading over to Lima, Ohio on Tuesday for a doubleheader. The Seahawks will face UNOH at 2:00 p.m. and Huntington at 4:00 p.m.
