In leading up to the start of the 2017-18 athletic season at Keiser, beginning on Aug. 16 with volleyball taking on Aquinas College at 6 p.m. in Grand Rapids, Mich., the Seahawks athletic department is counting down the top 10 sports stories from the 2016-17 season.
Coming in at No. 5 was the announcement of adding football to the slate of sports offered by the Seahawks.
On October 24
th, Keiser University announced it will add football to its slate of varsity athletic programs, with intercollegiate action beginning in fall 2018. Football will raise the total of Keiser's varsity sports to 22.
The Seahawks announced
Doug Socha as the first head coach of the football program. Socha comes to the Seahawks from the Buffalo Bills, where he spent the past season as an offensive assistant. Prior to his season in the NFL, Socha was the head coach of Oxbridge Academy. As the first head coach at Oxbridge, Socha built the program from the ground up and in 2015 led the team to a 9-3 record and the district title. Overall, he has coached in four state titles games, won 1 as a Head Coach in 2011 and has an overall record of 50-11.
Keiser added their first three players on National Signing Day in Simeon Phillips of Oxbridge, Pierre Michel of American Heritage, and Eli Matthews of Palm Beach Gardens.
