Match Summary
The No. 4 Keiser women's tennis squad fell to top-ranked Georgia Gwinnett this afternoon by the final score of 5-1. The Seahawks did not go down without a fight, taking a rare doubles point from the Grizzlies, while also pushing the No. 1 team to the brink this afternoon. With the loss, Keiser finishes the season with a 15-8 overall record, reaching the semifinals for the first time in 14 years.

Doubles
  • Georgia Gwinnett began the match with an 8-1 win in the number two doubles slot as Valeria Podda and Klara Dohnalova bested Samantha Guy and Lorene Foerste.
  • The Grizzlies doubled their lead to 2-0 from the third doubles position as Margarida Abreu and Emerald Able upended Teodora Stanciu and Juliana Goncalves, 8-3.
  • Keiser avoided the doubles sweep as Megane Bianco and Julianna Heino defeated the nation's top-ranked doubles tandem of Chiara Di Salvo and Alyona Vasilyeva, 8-4.
  • Heino and Bianco showed grit and determination as the Keiser tandem was the first NAIA opponent to knock off Di Salvo and Vasilyeva this season, with Heino completing the task on just one good leg.

Singles
  • Vasilyeva gained the point back for the Grizzlies in the number four singles position, besting Guy in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1 to stretch the Georgia Gwinnett lead to 3-1.
  • The Grizzlies pulled to within one win away from clinching the match as Able defeated Stanciu 6-3, 6-0 in the final singles hole.
  • Di Salvo clinched the match for the Grizzlies, defeating Goncalves 6-2, 6-0 shortly after Able's victory, sending Georgia Gwinnett into the championship match.

Coach's Corner
"Obviously I am disappointed in the loss today," stated head coach Daniel Finn. "It's a natural feeling to be upset over a loss, but Gwinnett just had the better team today. Credit to these girls as they fought their hearts out, not just today but this whole tournament. Today's score doesn't truly tell the story of the match. This was a tight one from the start. In my whole career, I've never had a women's team that I have been more proud of for overachieving and maximizing their assets. This women's team has come so far from the beginning and has grown into a team of competitors. The way the girls came out today and went toe-to-toe with the defending national champions tells of how much we have grown this season. At this point, we thank our seniors but with a strong core of returners we know that the future for the ladies program is a bright one."
