Match Summary
The No. 4 Keiser women's tennis team bested No. 13 Cardinal Stritch for the second time this season, this time in the NAIA Women's Tennis Championship Round of 16 by the score of 5-3. The Seahawks defeated the Wolves back on March 7 by the score of 5-4 in West Palm Beach, Fla., when Cardinal Stritch was ranked fourth in the nation. With the win, Keiser reaches the quarterfinals for the first time since 2015 and the first time under head coach Daniel Finn.

Doubles
  • Juliana Goncalves and Teodora Stanciu began the scoring for Keiser in the number three doubles slot, besting Jitsupa Sirinit and Natalie Grieve, 8-2.
  • The Wolves tied the match at 1-1 from the second doubles position as Volcy Boilevin and Livia Hollosy upended Samantha Guy and Lorene Foerste, 8-4.
  • The Seahawks came out of the doubles play on top 2-1 after Megane Bianco and Julianna Heino cruised to an 8-3 win over Alexi Loomis and Emily Kaftan.

Singles
  • Bianco continued where she left off in doubles play, soaring past Hollosy by the final score of 6-0, 6-0 to give Keiser the 3-1 lead.
  • The Wolves pulled to within one for the second time in the match as Luise Gruber defeated Guy in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.
  • The Seahawks received a much needed win from Stanciu in the sixth singles slot as the Hungarian senior won 6-1, 6-1 over Kaftan to place Keiser ahead by two.
  • Cardinal Stritch would not go away as Loomis defeated Heino in the number two singles spot as Heino was forced to retire from the match, trailing in the third set 1-0.
  • Goncalves put the game away for good, ruining any thoughts of a Wolves' comeback as the senior won 6-4, 7-5 over Boilevin in the third singles position to clinch the 5-3 victory.
  • Foerste was nearing the end of her match from the fifth singles position, leading 7-5, 5-2 before the match was called.

Coach's Corner
"This was a gutsy win by the ladies," stated Finn. "The ladies battled hard today and really came through in the big points today when it mattered. Honestly I am extremely proud of the ladies and they really deserve this one today especially when many things did not go their way and they still found a way to fight through and win."

Up Next
