Turning Point
The turning point on Saturday afternoon occurred with 12:36 remaining in the second half. With the Seahawks holding the largest lead of the game, 54-41, a Kase Carrera triple ignited a 16-4 run to close the Lions to within 58-57 with just under seven minutes to play. Florida Memorial eventually tied the game and forced the contest into overtime, where they were able to defeat the Seahawks.Â
How it Happened
- The Seahawks jumped out to a 10-5 lead at the 15:13 mark, with Sarenac scoring the first five KU points.
- The Lions closed to within 13-10 before a McClenton layup sparked a 9-2 spurt that included a Sarenac triple and two Trystan Pratapas layups to make it 22-12 with 11 minutes to play in the half.
- However, Florida Memorial roared back with a 19-2 run to take a 31-24 advantage with just under six minutes to play.
- The Seahawks responded with 15 unanswered points courtesy of four triples and a three-point play to close out the half leading, 39-31.
- A seesaw battle opened the second half until Orlic connected on back-to-back threes upping the margin to 54-41 with 13 minutes to play.
- Over the next five and a half minutes, FMU outscored KU 16-4 to diminish Keiser's lead to 58-57, when Marko Radulovic hit a clutch jumper to up the margin to three, with 5:49 to play.
- Again, Florida Memorial cut the defect to one but Orlic connected on a huge three-pointer to give the Seahawks a 63-59 lead with 4:39 left in regulation.
- Following an FMU breakaway dunk, McClenton tallied six of the game's next eight points to stretch the advantage to 69-63 with 54 seconds remaining.
- However, FMU connected on back-to-back three-pointers to even the contest at 69-apiece with just 13 ticks to go.
- On the ensuing possession, the Lions fouled Micah Goss, sending him to the free throw line. The senior knocked down both shots to give KU a 71-69 advantage before FMU called a timeout.
- Out of the timeout, Omar Outar connected on a jumper to even things up 71-71 with just five seconds to play.
- In the closing seconds of regulation, Goss put up a last chance effort for the win, but the shot just missed, sending the game to overtime.
- Goss opened overtime hitting two free throws before the Lions scored eight straight to take a 79-73 lead with 2:45 to play.
- After the Seahawks closed within three on a Pratapas triple, the Lions responded with a three of their own to widen their margin to 82-76 with 1:30 on the clock.
- McClenton brought the Seahawks within 82-81 following a layup and his first career three-pointer with under 30 seconds to play.
- Trailing 81-81, the Seahawks were forced to foul, sending Evens Jacques to the line.
- The Florida Memorial senior connected on both attempts, sealing the Lions victory 84-81.
