The Sun Conference Championship
The Keiser University men's soccer team fell in the Sun Conference tournament championship game to St. Thomas 1-0 on Friday evening. The Seahawks will still receive an automatic bid to the final site of the NAIA National Tournament by virtue of being the host institution.
Turning Point
The turning point in tonight's championship game came in the third minute when Sun Conference Player of the Year, Federico Moronell netted his 16
th goal of the year. Moronell's goal was the lone goal in the contest.
How It Happened
- St. Thomas got on the board in the third minute when Thomas Greco played a through ball to Moronell and he placed his shot into the back of the net.
- The Seahawks went on to outshoot the Bobcats 6-3 but continued to trail at the half.
- STU flipped the script in the second half, outshooting the Seahawks 12-5 but were unable to tack on an insurance goal.
Game Notes
- This was the first time in school history that the Seahawks played in a championship game in back-to-back years.
- The scoreline was the same as last year's championship game between these two teams.
- Nicolas Gomez made his first start in goal, making three saves.
- Thomas Dawson had five shots including four on goal.
