The Keiser men's tennis squad received two program firsts on Saturday at the ITA Florida Regional. The Seahawks will send both a men's singles and doubles competitor to the ITA National Tournament in October. Keiser was guaranteed the feat after securing all-Keiser finals in both doubles and singles play.
Â
The day began with singles play where Arthur "Boy Wonder" Bonnaud improved to 27-0 in his collegiate career after besting teammate
Julian Turosienski in three hard fought sets. Bonnaud dropped the first set to Turosienski, 7-6(2). Third-seeded Bonnaud then rallied to win the next two sets, 7-5, 6-2, to guarantee a spot in the ITA Nationals in Arizona.
Â
Keiser's
Francesco Oliva and
Clement Raymond then pulled off the upset over fellow teammates Turosienski and
Romai Ugarte in doubles play. The fourth seeded doubles tandem of Oliva/Raymond earned the straight set victory in dramatic fashion over the second-seeded Turosienski/Ugarte, 7-5, 7-6(1) to secure their place in Keiser history as well as in the ITA Nationals.
Â
"I am definitely proud of how the boys played this week," stated head coach
Daniel Finn. "The fact that the boys continued to advance through the tournament the way they did speaks volume about the talent we have and how hard they are willing to work to succeed. I am obviously very proud of Arthur, Francesco and Clement as they will represent our team at nationals. I am equally as proud of everyone else and how hard they battled all week long. This group definitely has potential to be special."
