The #23 Keiser University baseball team dropped a pair of games to RV St. Thomas in a Sun Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The Seahawks moved to 31-19 overall and 13-9 in conference games.
Game 1: St. Thomas defeats Keiser 11-8 in a thriller.
- The Bobcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first before a Brad Myott bloop single to left in the bottom half cut the deficit to 2-1.
- In the third, Miguel Casanueva singled to left and two straight walks to Jesus Fuenmayor and Andrew Danner loaded the bases with one out. A pair of errors on the STU second basemen allowed two Seahawks to score, taking a 3-2 advantage. However, St. Thomas answered with three runs in the third and two in the fourth for a 7-3 lead.
- An RBI fielder's choice to the shortstop by Keivan Berges in the fourth got Keiser within 7-4 but the Bobcats got the run back in the fifth making it 8-4. The Seahawks then knotted the game in the sixth.
- Danner walked and back to back singles by Dylan Dore and Gabby Mundo loaded the bases with nobody out. Berges then cleared them with a grand slam to left center tying the contest at 8-8.
- St. Thomas retook the lead at 9-8 in the seventh and added a run in the eighth and ninth to win 11-8.
- Casanueva had a game high three hits helping Keiser outhit STU 13-12. Berges had five runs batted in.
Game 2: Late rally comes up short by Keiser in 9-6 setback to St. Thomas.
- St. Thomas took an early 3-0 lead in the second before the Seahawks cut it to 3-2 in the third. Mundo brought the first run in on an RBI ground rule double to right center and an STU error got the Seahawks within 3-2.
- The Bobcats got a run back in the fourth pushing back out to a 4-2 advantage and added two more in the seventh for a 6-2 lead.
- In the seventh, Jonathan Cata singled and pinch runner Tyler Hitt stole two straight bases. Danner plated him with an RBI groundout to second cutting the deficit to 6-3. However, St. Thomas added three more runs in the eighth for a 9-3 lead.
- A leadoff solo homer to right center by Berges cut it to 9-4 and a two run pinch hit homer to left by Casey Mullennix got Keiser within 9-6 in the eighth but got no closer.
- Mundo led the way with a pair of hits.
The Seahawks will look to bounce back on Tuesday when they travel to NCAA Division II Eckerd. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
