#6 Men's Tennis Claim First Ever Sun Conference Tournament Championship

The #6 Keiser University men's tennis team defeated #22 Warner 5-0 to claim their first ever Sun Conference Tournament Championship. The Seahawks improved to 19-3 overall and earned an automatic bid into the 65th annual NAIA National Championship Tournament May 17-21.

The Seahawks got off to a hot start as the #3 pairing of Nicolas Guerschanik and Arthur Bonnaud rolled to an 8-2 win and an early 1-0 lead. The #2 duo of Martin Martins and Guilherme Cunha won 8-5 extending the advantage to 2-0.

The excitement came at #1 as Rafael Lenz and Shaquille Taylor took on the unbeaten and #13 nationally ranked team. The duo had to fight off an early break of serve trailing 1-3 and never looked back going on to win 8-5, knocking off the Sun Conference Doubles Team of the Year, securing the sweep of doubles and a 3-0 advantage going into singles play.

Martins upped the lead to 4-0 with his 6-0, 6-2 victory, putting Keiser within a match of clinching. The undefeated freshmen Bonnaud, sealed the second straight match with his 6-3, 6-0 win at #4, winning the championship 5-0.

Head Coach Daniel Finn said, "Words can't describe how proud I am of these boys. They really brought it today and put on a show. We came out with great energy and were ready to battle from the beginning. The boys really wanted this one and it feels great for them to make history winning the Sun Conference tournament for the first time ever."

Finn continued, "The boys just keep it coming with this historic season, from the most wins in a year, longest winning streak, highest national ranking, and Sun Conference Regular Season title. Congratulations to Warner and the great season they have had and they are better than what there ranking is. As for us, we will enjoy this one for now but get back to work and prepare for the NAIA National Championships. Anytime you win a conference title, it is obviously special, but this one will always hold a special place for me. I love this group and am excited to see what else this season has in store for us."
