The #19 Seahawks baseball team swept Ave Maria in a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. Keiser improved to 27-11 overall and 10-3 in conference play.
Game 1: Keiser defeated Ave Maria 8-3.
- An RBI double to right field by Brad Myott in the first gave the Seahawks a 1-0 lead. A sacrifice fly to center by Carlos Lopez upped the advantage to 2-0 and an RBI single through the right side by Tyler Goff made it 3-0.
- A Miguel Casanueva sacrifice fly to center in the fifth upped the lead to 4-0 and a Dylan Dore RBI single to center made it 5-0.
- Ave Maria plated two runs in the fifth getting to within 5-2 but the Seahawks answered with two of their own in the sixth. Keiser loaded the bases and a groundout made it 6-2 and a Jack Curtis RBI single to center pushed the margin to 7-2. A fielding error by the shortstop capped the Seahawks scoring at 8-2.
- The Gyrenes scored one last run in the eighth but got no closer falling 8-3.
- Kyle Keatts (5-2) threw eight innings with six strikeouts and Cort Miller threw a scoreless ninth.
- Dore had three hits helping Keiser outhit Ave Maria 12-9.
Game 2: The Seahawks stormed past the Gyrenes 17-6.
- Keivan Berges gave the Seahawks a 1-0 lead in the first on a solo homer to right but the Gyrenes got the run right back in the bottom half knotting it at 1-1.
- After two scoreless innings, Keiser struck with four runs in the in the fourth. A fielding error plated two runs making it 3-1, a sacrifice fly to center by Dore pushed it to 4-1, and an Andrew Danner RBI single to short made it 5-1. An RBI fielder's choice by Casanueva pushed the lead to 6-1 and a Jonathan Cata RBI single upped the advantage to 7-1.
- Ave Maria Maria used a huge fifth inning scoring five runs getting to within 7-6, but the Seahawks matched that in the sixth.
- RBI singles by Goff and Daniel Arroyo upped the advantage to 8-6, a two run pinch hit triple by Gabby Mundo extended the lead to 10-6, and a sacrifice fly by Casanueva made it 11-6. Keiser then broke the game open in the ninth with five more runs.
- Dore brought the first run in on a double to left center and RBI singles by Danner, Carlos Lopez, Goff and Curtis sealed the 17-6 victory.
- Keiser outhit Ave Maria 21-12 in the game with Goff having a game high four hits.
- Berges (1-1) started the game and went four innings with five strikeouts.\
Keiser returns to the diamond on Wednesday when they travel to Webber International for a 7:00 p.m. first pitch.
