The #6 Keiser University men's tennis team won 8-0 in a rain shortened match against Webber International on Wednesday afternoon. The Seahawks moved to 13-2 overall which sets the program mark for the most in a season and pushed their conference record to 3-0.
Keiser got off to a hot start as
Nicolas Guerschanik and
Shaquille Taylor cruised 8-0 at #3 doubles. Quickly after that
Martin Martins and
Guilherme Cunha won 8-2 in the second spot and
Rafael Lenz and
Arthur Bonnaud capped off the doubles sweep with an 8-3 victory.
In singles, Taylor shutout his opponent 6-0, 6-0 in the fifth spot and Lenz matched him with a 6-0, 6-0 win in the third spot clinching the match for the men. Bonnaud followed suit with a 6-0, 6-0 victory pushing the advantage to 6-0.
Guerschanik at #1 was victorious 6–4, 6–0 and
Ignacio Osse joined his counterparts with a 6–0, 6–0 blanking giving Keiser the 8-0 lead.
Martins the number two singles player dropped the first set 4-6, but would be leading and serving for the second set 5-4 when the rains came and forced the match to be called since the Seahawks already clinched the victory.
Head Coach
Daniel Finn said, "The boys did a good job of staying focused in some uneasy conditions with two or three different rain stoppages. It's great to see us continuing to thrive. We got a big week ahead of us so we're going to have to rest up and get ready for it."
