The #6 ranked men's tennis team won 9-0 over Ave Maria University on Thursday afternoon in their Sun Conference opener.

The boys wasted no time in doubles as Nicholas Guerschanik and Shaquille Taylor cruised at #3 doubles 8–1. Shortly after that, Martin Martins and Guilherme Cunha posted an 8-3 win, upping the lead to 2-0 lead.

#1 doubles had its drama as Rafael Lenz and Arthur Bonnaud fell behind a break of serve early and trailed the entire match. However with Ave Maria serving for the match, Keiser saved match points and eventually tied it at 7-7. After an exchange of holds, the match would be decided by a tiebreaker.The Gyrenes had match points but an incredible shot by Bonnaud saved it.  Just a few points later, Lenz won the match with a bullet of a backhand to win 9-8(6) pushing the lead to 3-0. 

Taylor was victorious 6–0, 6-1 at #5 and Bonnaud grabbed the clinching fifth point with his 6–1, 6–0 win at #4. At #1 Guerschanik put on a serving display, rolling to a 6–2, 6–2 win, and #38 Martins flexed his muscle winning at #2 6-2, 7-6(0) pushing the advantage to 7-0.

Ignacio Osse cruised early before winning 6-0, 6-4 at #6 singles and Lenz showed why he is the #24 ranked player in the nation with his dominate 6-2, 6-2 victory to close out the day, winning 9-0.

Head Coach Daniel Finn said, "Definitely happy to see the boys play well today. #1 doubles did a good job of taking the other teams best punch and fighting back in the important moments. Those are the experiences you can carry with you to the later matches in the season"
