Softball Splits in Clermont on Saturday

The Seahawks softball team split a pair of games on Saturday afternoon in Clermont, Florida. Keiser moved to 12-12 overall on the year.

Game 1: The Seahawks defeated St. Francis 6-0.
  • After two scoreless innings, Keiser got on the board in the third with three runs. Shanah Thomas led off with a bunt and a throwing error put runners on the corners. A throwing error by the shortstop allowed two runs to score for a 2-0 lead, and a fielding error extended it to 3-0.
  • The Seahawks doubled the margin in the sixth with three more runs. After St. Francis set down the first two batters, an Avery Miller walk, Aquaria Baines bunt, and an S. Thomas hit by pitch loaded the bases.
  • Heather Shapiro then cleared them with a double to left center upping the advantage to 6-0.
  • Allison Williams threw a complete game one hitter, while striking out two and allowing no walks.
  • Baines and Shapiro had two hits apiece.
Game 2: Keiser fell to Cornerstone 9-5.
  • The Golden Eagles plated a run in the first for a 1-0 lead but the Seahawks went in front 2-1 in the second on a two run homer by Taylor Beckman.
  • Cornerstone tied the game at 2-2 in the second but again Keiser responded with two runs in the bottom half. Alyssa Cabral singled up the middle and advanced to second on a wild pitch. A throwing error put the Seahawks back ahead 3-2 and a sacrifice fly by Avery Miller extended it to 4-2.
  • The Golden Eagles pushed three runs across in the sixth and four in the seventh for a 9-4 advantage. Keiser got one last run in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI by Alison Williams but fell 9-5.
