Softball Sweeps Peru State

The Keiser University softball team swept a doubleheader against Peru State on Thursday afternoon. The Seahawks moved back to .500 at 11-11 on the year with the two wins.


Game 1: Keiser defeated Peru State 12-4 in six innings.
  • Heather Shapiro tripled to right center to lead off the first but was thrown out at home on a fielder's choice. Ryleigh Williams then stole second and scored on an Alyssa Cabral double to right center making it 1-0.
  • Peru State answered in the second with a pair of runs to go in front front 2-1 and doubled their lead in the third making it 4-1 before the Seahawks plated two in the bottom half.
  • A throwing error on the catcher made it 4-2 and an RBI groundout by Aquaria Baines cut it to 4-3.
  • In the fifth, Cassidy Miller led off with a double to left center and two walks loaded the bases with one out. An RBI single by Baines tied it at 4-4 and a pinch hit sacrifice fly by Tyler Thomas put Keiser back in front 5-4. A wild pitch allowed Baines to score upping the lead to 6-4.
  • The Seahawks then plated six runs in the sixth to cut the game short due to mercy rule. Back to back RBI singles by Baker and Cabral extended the advantage to 8-4 and consecutive doubles by Taylor Beckman and Baines upped the lead to 11-4. A wild pitch then ended the game with Keiser winning 12-4.
  • Cabral and Baines led the way with three hits helping the Seahawks outhit Peru State 15-7.
  • Allison Williams picked up the win going 3.2 innings allowing just four hits and no runs.

Game 2: The Seahawks defeated the Bobcats 5-4.
  • The Bobcats struck with two runs in the first before the Seahawks got on the board in the third on an RBI single to left by C. Miller to trail 2-1.
  • In the fifth with two outs, a T. Thomas RBI single up the middle tied it at 2-2 and a C. Miller RBI double to left field put the Seahawks in front 3-2. A Baker triple down the left field line stretched the Keiser advantage to 4-2.
  • Peru State pushed two runs across in the seventh knotting the game at 4-4. However, the Seahawks would score the game winning run in the bottom half.
  • Baker singled up the middle with one out and pinch runner R. Williams moved to second on an error by the second basemen. Beckman then singled to left center winning the game 5-4.
  • Baker led the way with three hits helping Keiser outhit Peru State 11-7.
  • T. Thomas threw a complete game, striking out five.

The Seahawks return to action on Saturday in Clermont, Florida against St. Francis at 1:00 and Cornerstone at 3:00 p.m.
