Softball Drops Two in Clermont

The Seahawks softball team dropped a pair of games on Saturday afternoon in Clermont, Florida. Keiser moved to 6-8 overall.

Game 1: Keiser falls to Grace College 8-7.
  • The Lancers plated two runs in the first, before the Seahawks got on the board in the third with a run.
  • Tyler Thomas singled through the left side and moved up two bases on sacrifice bunts. Heather Shapiro then drove her home on an RBI single to right center making it 2-1.
  • Grace got the run back in the bottom half and tacked three on in the fourth pushing out to a 6-1 advantage.
  • The Seahawks loaded the bases in the fifth with no outs when a hit by pitch to Alyssa Cabral made it 6-2 and a Cassidy Miller grand slam to center tied it at 6-6.
  • The Lancers retook a 7-6 advantage in the sixth on an unearned run but Keiser knotted it at 7-7 on a Cabral RBI single through the right side scoring Shapiro who led off the inning with a double to center.  However, Grace scored the game winning run in the bottom of the seventh prevailing 8-7.
  • Shapiro led the way with two hits, while C. Miller had four runs batted in.
  • Riley Caylor started and went four innings striking out four, and Nicole Granitto went three innings with three strikeouts.

Game 2: The Seahawks were defeated by 15 Davenport 11-4.
  • Keiser got on the board in first on an error by the shortstop making it 1-0. C. Miller extended the lead to 2-0 in the third on an RBI double to center. However, the Panthers gained a 5-2 advantage in the fourth.
  • The Seahawks loaded the bases in the bottom half with no outs when a Shanah Thomas RBI single to the catcher made it 5-3. A Shapiro sacrifice fly to right cut it to 5-4.
  • Davenport got six runs in the fifth and one in the seventh to win 12-4.
  • Stormy Stokes and C. Miller led the way with two hits apiece.

The Seahawks return home tomorrow afternoon in a doubleheader against Cleary. The games are set for 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
