The Seahawks softball team split their doubleheader on Sunday afternoon in Lakeland, Florida. Keiser moved to 6-6 overall on the year.
Game 1: Cumberland defeated Keiser University 4-3.- Cumberland jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first before the Seahawks tied it in the fifth inning. Taylor Beckman and Avery Miller led off with back to back singles and Beckman scored on a Nicole Granitto fielder's choice and throwing error. A passed ball then tied the game up at 2-2.
- The Phoenix retook a 3-2 advantage in the bottom half of the fifth with an RBI single.
- The first pitch to Cassidy Miller in the sixth was connected on for a solo homerun to left center knotting it at 3-3. Meagan Flores then walked and Jaryaca Baker singled through the left side. A sacrifice bunt by Beckman moved both runners up a base but the Seahawks were unable to get a run across with one out.
- Cumberland then scored the game winning run in the seventh on a two out RBI single to second base.
- Seven different players recorded at least one hit in the game.
- Allison Williams suffered the loss despite throwing the complete game.
Game 2: The Seahawks took down Middle Georgia State 9-6.- The first pitch of the game to Heather Shapiro was hit for a homerun to right center making it 1-0. The Seahawks loaded the bases with two outs and two straight RBI singles by Stormy Stokes and Ryleigh Williams extended the margin to 3-0.
- Shapiro upped the lead to 5-0 in the third with a two run RBI single to left field.
- Middle Georgia got on the board in the fourth on a sacrifice fly but Keiser responded in the bottom half with a two run homer to left center by Baker making it 7-1.
- The Knights pushed five runs across in the fifth getting to within 7-6 but C. Miller got two runs back with a homer to left field pushing back out to a 9-6 advantage.
- Riley Caylor improved to 2-2 going 4.2 innings before Nicole Granitto picked up her first save of the year.
Keiser returns to action in Clermont, Florida on Saturday, February 27th. The Seahawks face Grace College at 3:00 and Davenport at 5:00 p.m.
