Match Recap: No. 3 Men's Tennis |

#11 Men's Tennis Takes Down #3 Lindsey Wilson 5-4

The #11 ranked men's tennis team faced off against #3 ranked Lindsey Wilson on Friday afternoon in a rematch of last year's NAIA round of 16 match. Last time around, the Blue Raiders won 5-0, but this time would be different as the Seahawks came away with the 5-4 upset. The win also marks the highest ranked opponent in program history that Keiser has beaten.

This one would be intense from the beginning as Lindsey Wilson jumped out to a 1-0 lead after winning #3 doubles 8-4 over Ignacio Osse and Martin Martins. Then the #1 doubles tandem of Rafael Lenz and Arthur Bonnaud won 8-5 to tie things up at 1-1. Nicolas Guerschanik and Shaquille Taylor put an exclamation point on doubles with an 8-3 win, giving Keiser the 2-1 lead going into singles.

Lenz extended the Seahawks advantage to 3-1 after his 6-1, 6-3 victory. However, Lindsey Wilson fought back as the #34 ranked player Denis Porcic took out Guerschanik 6-1, 6-4, and then tied it at 3-3 after Raul Mendez the #41 player took down Luis Sanchez 6-3, 6-3.

Keiser regained the advantage at 4-3 and was one point away from the upset after Bonnaud won 7-5, 6-2. However, the Blue Raiders knotted it at 4-4 when Osse fell 6-2, 7-5 and the match came down to #6 singles. Taylor came through earning the 5-4 win for Keiser University.

Head Coach Daniel Finn said, "We really did a good job tonight of controlling the tempo and playing on our terms. We knew doubles would be important and the boys really brought it early to gain the lead. The energy I saw throughout the lineup tonight was great and that is what pushed us through when the match got close. Like I have already said, our depth in our lineup is our greatest strength and it showed again today. I'm really proud of the boys and the way they went out and took this one today.  We will enjoy this one for today but get back to work tomorrow."

Keiser returns to action on March 7th at home when they welcome Cardinal Stritch.
