Softball Shutout St. Joseph in Doubleheader Sweep

The Seahawks softball team swept a home doubleheader against the College of St. Joseph on Friday afternoon. Keiser recorded shutouts in both games, improving their record to 3-5 overall.

Game 1: Keiser powered past the Saints 15-0 in five innings.
  • Heather Shapiro led off the game with a homer to left field for a quick 1-0 lead. Alyssa Cabral followed with a single up the middle and scored on a Cassidy Miller double to center making it 2-0. Meagan Flores platted Miller on a double to left center pushing the lead to 3-0.
  • After St. Joseph recorded their first out, Tyler Thomas homered to left center on a 1-2 count upping the advantage to 5-0. RBI singles by Shanah Thomas and Shapiro raised the lead to 8-0 after one inning.
  • The Seahawks loaded the bases in the third with no outs, when a C. Miller sacrifice fly to right upped the score to 9-0. Jaryaca Baker pushed two runs across on a double down the third base line making it 11-0.
  • Taylor Beckman led off the fourth with a solo homer to left center extending the score to 12-0. RBI singles by Ryleigh Williams and C. Miller pushed the advantage to 15-0.
  • Four player's recorded two hits helping Keiser outhit their opponents 15-2. C. Miller had a game high four runs batted in.
  • T. Thomas picked up her first win of the year, allowing two hits and striking out one in a complete game.

Game 2: The Seahawks defeated St. Joseph 7-0.
  • Riley Caylor held St. Joseph without a hit over the first 3.1 innings and limited them to just three hits during the entire game. She struck out 12 while picking up her first win of the year.
  • Keiser broke through in the fifth when Avery Miller walked with one out and pinch runner Erica Williams moved up to second on an S. Thomas sacrifice bunt. Williams then stole third and scored on a Shpairo triple to center for a 1-0 lead.  R. Williams followed with an RBI bunt upping the advantage to 2-0.
  • T. Thomas led off the sixth with a double to right field and moved to third on a Cabral sacrifice bunt. Stormy Stokes pushed the lead to 3-0 on an RBI groundout to shortstop. The Seahawks then loaded the bases and Shapiro cleared them with a double to left center extending the margin to 6-0. R. Williams capped the scoring with an RBI single to center winning 7-0.
  • The Seahawks outhit their opponents 11-3, while Shapiro had four runs batted in.

Keiser welcomes Indiana Southeast on Saturday morning for a doubleheader. The games are set for 9:00 and 11:00 a.m.
