#8 Men's Basketball Clinch TSC Regular Season Title

The #8 Keiser University men's basketball team won a share of the regular season conference championship with their 92-89 double overtime thriller against #10 Warner. With the win, the Seahawks will be the host for the semifinals and championship games of the Sun Conference Tournament.

How it Happened
  • The Seahawks led 69-63 with 2:45 left in regulation when Warner closed the game on a 6-0 run including a Warren Hall jumper in the paint with nine seconds remaining, sending the game into overtime knotted it at 69-69.
  • Andrija Sarenac scored the first five points of overtime for a 74-69 advantage but a Warner three pointer cut it to 74-72 with 3:45 remaining.
  • Baskets by Stefan Zecevic and Deion McClenton extended the lead to 78-72 with 1:39 to go but the Royals closed the period on a 7-1 run tying it at 79-79 and forcing the game into a second OT.
  • With the scored tied 86-86 with 1:50 left in double overtime, a McClenton dunk and Stanley Whittaker jumper upped the lead to 90-86 with 37 seconds to go.
  • Hall answered with a three pointer making it 90-89 with 25 seconds left, but clutch free throws by Whittaker and two defensive stops lifted the Seahawks to the 92-89 victory.
  • Warner controlled the first 18 minutes of the opening half and took their largest lead of the game of 34-25 when a pair of Tyrus Weaver free throws started a 7-0 run to close the half, getting to within 34-32.
  • Keiser took their first lead of the game of 37-36 with 17:53 showing in the second, but the Royals fought back to retake a 41-39 advantage with 16:59 to go. However, a Whittaker three pointer sparked a 12-3 run to go back in front 51-44 with 13:31 remaining and setup the exciting finish in West Palm Beach.
Inside the Box
1: This was the first game of the season to go double overtime and only the second game of the year that went to overtime.
5: Players in double figures led by Whittaker (21), Sarenac (18), Brice Jenkins (16), McClenton (15), and Zecevic (10).
10: The Seahawks held Warner to just ten points in each of the overtime periods.
16: McClenton had a game high in rebounds with eight offensive and eight defensive.

The Seahawks honored Kevin McDuffie, Jermaine Graves, and Ebenezer Adekunle prior to the start of the game.

Keiser improved to 26-3 overall and 13-2 in Sun Conference play. The Seahawks travel to Southeastern on Saturday for their final regular season game of the year. The tipoff is set for 4:00 p.m.

Sun Conference Tournament
The semifinals are set for Monday, February 29th and the championship game is Tuesday, March 1st.
