Schloo Earns Dr. LeRoy Walker Champions of Character Award

Keiser's Sabrina Schloo, a senior from Würzburg, Germany is the Sun Conference Winner of the NAIA's Dr. LeRoy Walker Champions of Character Award. The Walker Award is one of the most prestigious awards in the NAIA and was created as part of the NAIA's association with Citizenship through Sports Alliance (CTSA). The CTSA is a group of ten organizations from around the world of sports that seek to promote and recognize sportsmanship. The Sun Conference has selected Sabrina as its nominee out of all athletes in all sports in the Sun Conference.

This award was created to honor Dr. LeRoy Walker, a former president of the NAIA and President Emeritus of the United States Olympic Committee. Walker served as president of the United States Olympic Committee through the 1996 Summer Games. The award recognizes a current student-athlete who has demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, campus and community leadership embracing the five core character values of the NAIA Champions of Character initiative, athletic achievement and future ambition.

Head Coach Brandon Miller said, "Sabrina is a very deserving nominee for this award. On a daily basis throughout her four years at Keiser, Sabrina has consistently displayed the NAIA five core values on and off the golf course. Sabrina traveled here from Germany to study and play golf. I can only imagine that it's extremely difficult to start life in a new country. Sabrina made the transition seamlessly; immediately, she became best friends with all of her teammates. Her servant leadership and respect towards others showed on day one. She is exactly the type of player you want to build a team around, she does everything the right way and it has been a pleasure to coach her on the golf team these past four years. It's obvious to everyone that knows her that Sabrina will be extremely successful in her future endeavors after college, she will be a great ambassador for our school and golf program for many years to come and I'm very proud of her for achieving this nomination."

"Sabrina is one of the most honest and kind people I know. She has never done wrong to anyone and she is always here for other people. She would not hesitate to give some of her time to her friends, classmates, or teammates if they need it. In some classes when I had something I did not understand; she would not hesitate to sit with me and help me," said Caroline Retabi, a senior on the Keiser University women's golf team.

On the golf course Sabrina has been extremely successful in her time at Keiser University. Her freshmen season she had a tournament stroke average of 80.6. In her sophomore season Sabrina averaged 77.8 and ended the season ranked #8 in the NAIA individually according to Golfstat. Furthermore, Sabrina received several accolades for her golf achievements in the 2014-15 season: 2nd Team NAIA All-American, 1st Team All-Sun Conference, and NAIA All-Tournament Team.  In the 2015-16 season, Sabrina continued to improve. Her stroke average has lowered again to 77.7 and for the second consecutive season earned All-American and All-Sun Conference Honors. Additionally she was named Co-Sida All-American and she was named to the WGCA NAIA All-Scholar Team for her outstanding academic and athletic achievements this season. She has been a major contributor to the team this season and in past seasons. She is one of the main catalysts to the team's success in winning back to back Sun Conference Championship and back to back NAIA National Championships.  In the community, Sabrina has served In in various volunteer activities with the Honda Classic Care Team and The Quantum House.
