Box Score The Keiser Men's Tennis squad concluded day two of the College Tennis Clay Court Championships on Saturday evening, notching 11 overall victories between singles and doubles play.
Â
In the Gold Bracket, the Seahawks finished singles play with three victories.
Romai Ugarte notched the first win, defeating conference foe Francisco Perafan of Warner by the final score of 7-5, 6-1. Second-seeded
Julian Turosienski then bested Dario Rico Altozano of ASA in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2 to set up a Keiser matchup in the semifinals. Turosienski then overcame a 3-5 deficit to teammate Ugarte to win 7-5, 6-3, advancing to tomorrow's Gold Bracket singles final.
Â
In the Gold Bracket doubles draw, Keiser proved too much to handle for its competitors as both doubles teams advanced to tomorrow's final. Turosienski and Ugarte teamed up to upset top-seeded Hoffman/Lenz of PBA, 8-3.
Clement Raymond and
Francesco Oliva then defeated Lukosiunas/Coutinhio of Warner by the final score of 8-4, setting up an all-Keiser final in the gold doubles bracket.
Â
The Seahawks corralled six victories in the Navy bracket between singles and doubles play. Singles play began with Oliva defeating Niemeyer of PBA, 6-1, 6-0. Casper Schuetze then bested PBA's Bernardo Ferreira in three sets, 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 to set up a semifinals matchup against teammate Oliva. Schuetze upset teammate and top-seeded Oliva in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4 to advance to tomorrow's Navy singles final. The final singles victory in the navy draw came from Raymond after defeating Warner's Gambim in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. Raymond fell just short in the semifinals match to Barbon of ASA, 6-1, 7-6.
Â
Just like in the gold bracket, Keiser's doubles teams were too much to handle as both doubles tandems won to advance to the finals tomorrow, squaring off against each other. Schuetze and Penaloza began by besting Pinel/Branstner by the final of 8-4. Second-seeded Guerschanik/Bonnaud then defeated third-seeded DeJesse Charleval/Evangelista of ASA, 8-5.
Â
"Definitely proud of the results so far in the tournament," stated head coach
Daniel Finn. "Honestly we did not have our best stuff earlier in the day. But anytime you can find a way to win and advance and your tennis gets better, that's a sign of mental maturity which is what we definitely want to accomplish this fall. Having a boy in every flight singles and doubles finals is obviously a statement to how well we've played and improved as the tournament goes on. The goal tomorrow is to come out and play smart and disciplined tennis like we have been and hopefully the results will reflect that."
