The volleyball team swept the second day of their home tri-match on Saturday afternoon, improving to 5-1 on the year. Keiser defeated both Presentation and Trinity College 3-0.
Game 1 – vs. PresentationSet OneKeiser took their first lead of the set at 6-5 before Presentation tied the match back up at 7-7. A kill by
Megan Minke started a 5-0 run that was capped off by a Saints error giving the Seahawks a 12-7 advantage. After Presentation won the next two points, strong serving of
Chantelle Zamora helped spark a second 5-0 run giving Keiser their largest lead of 17-9. The Seahawks went on to win the set 25-16.
Set TwoThe Saints led 3-1 when the Seahawks used a 6-1 push to go out in front 7-4. Presentation stopped the run but Keiser used a pair of kills by
Nikki McKown and one by Gida Victor pushing their lead to 11-5. The visitors tried chipping away getting as close as 20-16 but kills by Minke and Zamora extended the margin to 23-16. Keiser would go on and take the set 25-18 and a 2-0 match lead.
Set ThreePresentation led the entire set but the Seahawks would not go down easily winning in dramatic fashion. Trailing 24-21, the Seahawks used a 5-0 run behind strong serving of
Morgan Stuive taking their first lead and winning 26-24.
Offense/DefenseMcKown led the way in kills (11), service aces (2), blocks (2), and digs 16.
Nicole Papineau had a match high 38 assists.
Game 2 – vs. Trinity Set OneLeading 6-5, Keiser went on a 6-0 run pushing their lead out to 12-5 behind two service aces of McKown. Trinity hung tough at 13-7 but the Seahawks would not allow another point closing out the set on a 12-0 run winning 25-7.
Set TwoThe match was tied 1-1 when Keiser used a 4-0 push going in front 5-1. The Tigers got to within 8-6, when
Veera Hietala started and ended a 4-0 run, doubling up their opponents 12-6. After Trinity won the next point,
Miranda Jickell served the next five points to lead 17-7. Keiser continued cruising in the set going on to win 25-17.
Set ThreeKeiser started fast jumping out to a 6-1 advantage, and did not let Trinity get any closer than four points during the set at 9-5. Four straight kills extended the Seahawks to their largest lead of 13-5 and went on to win 25-16.
Offense/Defense Minke led the way with six kills and three blocks.
Morgan Leff had 13 digs, while Jickell had 12 assists.
