The Northwood softball took the short trip over to NCAA Division 2 Palm Beach Atlantic on Tuesday evening. The Seahawks fell in the first game 5-4 and the second game 6-1.
Game One
Palm Beach Atlantic jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first and extended it to 4-0 after two innings of play. A Nicole Lewis RBI single down the right field line in the third made it 4-1 and a sacrifice groundout by Meagan Flores in the fifth cut it to 4-2. The Sailfish got a run back in the sixth, when the Seahawks attempted a rally in the seventh.
A throwing error scored the first run and a sacrifice fly to left by Flores trimmed it to 4-3. However, Northwood didn't get any closer falling 4-3.
Shanah Thomas Lewis led the way with two hits apiece. Anne Diercks threw the complete game on the mound.
Game Two
The Sailfish pushed two runs across in the first, when Flores doubled cutting the deficit in half at 2-1 in the second inning. Palm Beach Atlantic though platted two runs in the second extending their lead to 4-1 and scored two more in the fourth winning 6-1.
Thomas again led the way with two hits. Nicole Granitto went the distance on the mound.
With the defeats, the Seahawks fall to 14-26-1 overall. Northwood gets back into Sun Conference play on Friday welcoming Southeastern. The doubleheader is set for 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
