Softball Takes Two From Waldorf

The Seahawks softball team swept Waldorf in a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. Northwood took game one 8-4 and a 6-0 shutout in game two.

Waldorf got off to a fast start pushing three runs across in the first for an early 3-0 lead. The Seahawks got a run back in the bottom half on a homer to left center by Cassidy Miller making it 3-1. The Warriors pushed back out to a 4-1 advantage in third, but Northwood took the lead in the third inning with four runs.

Shanah Thomas, Miller and Allie Catapano all reached to load up the bases with no outs. Nicole Lewis singled up the middle making it 4-2 and an Alex Hartley fielder's choice made it 4-3. Tara Coletti singled to center platting two runs giving the Seahawks a 5-4 advantage.

Jaime Schiller ripped an RBI single up the middle in the fifth stretching the margin to 6-4, and a second homer by Miller to left center in the seventh won the game 8-4.

Nicole Granitto pitched a complete game (4-2) striking out two. Schiller, Coletti, and Miller all had two hits apiece.

In game two, Meagan Flores doubled to right center scoring two runs taking a 2-0 lead. Flores platted another two runs in the third on an RBI single to center extending it to 4-0. Northwood added on to their lead in the seventh with two runs on RBI singles by Catapano and Hartley winning the game 6-0.

Anne Diercks pitched a seven inning shutout striking out three batters improving to 4-2 overall. Flores led the way at the plate with three hits.

With the sweep, the Seahawks improve to 11-5-1 overall. Northwood returns to the diamond on Friday when they travel to Clermont, Florida for a double header. In game one they play Spring Arbor at 1:00 and Mt. Vernon at 3:00 p.m.
