Softball Moves Win Streak to Six With Sweep

The Seahawks softball team won both games on Friday afternoon in Clermont, Florida. Northwood defeated Spring Arbor 5-1 and shutout Mt. Vernon Naz. 1-0 in the night cap.

In the Spring Arbor game, an error on the first basemen gave the Seahawks an early 1-0 advantage in the second inning. A Nicole Lewis RBI fielder's choice and Tara Coletti single pushed the lead to 3-0 in third. The Cougars got a run back in the fourth but Coletti answered with an RBI single keeping the margin at 4-1. Coletti picked up her third RBI in seventh on a single winning the game 5-1.

Nicole Granitto picked up the win moving to 4-2 overall on the year.  She struck out seven batters while allowing one unearned run. Alex Hartley and Coletti led the way at the plate with three hits apiece.

During the night cap against another Cougar team, Rachel Dirks and Anne Diercks combined on the shutout. Dirks struck out two over 6.2 innings while only allowing four hits and two walks.

The lone run of the game came in sixth inning on an error by the shortstop allowing Shannah Thomas to score the game winning run.

Cassidy Miller and Hartley had the only Northwood hits.

Northwood improves their winning streak to six games and are now 13-5-2 overall on the year. The Seahawks return to the field tomorrow in a doubleheader. In game one at 1:00 they take on Mt. Vernon Naz.  The 3:00 game pits them against #9 St. Xavier.
