The Seahawks softball team fell to Thomas University on Sunday afternoon in Sun Conference play. Northwood fell in game one 3-0 and 4-3 in game two
The Night Hawks pushed three runs across in the second inning for an early 3-0 lead. Northwood only managed two hits in the game both by Cassidy Miller losing 3-0. Meagan Flores pitched six innings of shutout ball in relief only allowing two hits.
In game two, Thomas struck with four runs in the third inning for a 4-0 advantage. The Seahawks broke through in the fifth on an RBI single to right center by Ryleigh Williams making it 4-1. Northwood in the seventh inning mounted a comeback with two runs.
Allie Catapano and Rachel Dirks both reached on singles and an RBI double down the left field line by Tara Coletti cut it to 4-2. An RBI groundout by Williams got it to 4-3 with a runner on third base and two outs. However, the Seahawks got no closer falling 4-3.
Dirks led the way at the plate and on the mound in the contest. She had a team high two hits and 4.1 innings of shutout relief work.
With the losses, Northwood falls to 14-14-1 overall and 0-4 in Sun Conference play. Northwood returns to action on Friday when they travel to Webber International for a conference doubleheader. The games are set for 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
