The Northwood softball team fell to #25 South Carolina Beaufort in their Sun Conference opener on Saturday afternoon. The Seahawks dropped game one 3-1 and fell 4-2 in eight innings in game two.
South Carolina Beaufort scored a run in the fourth and two in the fifth taking a 3-0 lead. Northwood got on the board in the sixth on an RBI single to center by Allie Catapano making it 3-1. However, the Seahawks got no closer falling 3-1.
Catapano led the way at the plate with two hits and Ryleigh Williams had the other. Meagan Flores pitched all seven innings striking out three hitters.
In game two, the Sand Sharks took an early 1-0 lead in the third; however Northwood tied it at 1-1 in the bottom half on an RBI groundout by Heimy Espinal. The Seahawks took a 2-1 advantage in the fifth on an RBI single to center field by Williams. USCB tied it in the sixth at 2-2 forcing the game into extra innings.
Unfortunately, the visitors hit a two run homer in the eighth going on to win the game 4-2. Anne Diercks went 7.2 innings striking out a batter. Cassidy Miller, Tara Coletti and Williams had the lone hits.
With the losses, Northwood drops to 14-12-1 overall and 0-2 in conference play. The Seahawks have a quick turnaround playing Thomas at home tomorrow. The first pitch is set for 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
