Faulkner Pitches Northwood Past Marygrove 18-1

The Northwood baseball team cruised past Marygrove 18-1 on Monday afternoon in non-conference play. Cody Faulkner led the way on the mound tossing a one hitter over six innings.

The Seahawks struck early with four runs in the first. The first came on an RBI single by Carlos Contreras making it 1-0. Casey Mullennix tacked on two more with a double hitting off the left field wall pushing the advantage to 3-0. Ryan Palenzuela pushed the final run across with an RBI single up the middle for the 4-0 lead. Northwood doubled up their lead in the second inning with four more runs.

Contreras got the scoring going with his second RBI single on the day making it 5-0. A balk by the Marymount pitcher pushed the next run across and Palenzuela rounded out the inning with a two run RBI single to center field for the 8-0 advantage. Again, Northwood plateed four runs in the third.

A Nick Black RBI single started the scoring, and a three run home run to right field made it 12-0. The Seahawks broke trend in the fourth with six runs. Contreras got the scoring going with his RBI single to right field and a two run bomb to left field by Keivan Berges extended the lead to 15-0. A solo homer by Mullennix to left and a run by an error and hit by pitch made it 18-0. The Mustangs broke through in the seventh with a run but fell 18-1.

Northwood outhit their opponents 19-1, led by Palenzuela's 4-4 for day. Faulkner struck out five hitters while only allowing one walk. Austin Wilson pitched the seventh inning.

Win the win, the Seahawks improve to 14-5 overall on the season. The team returns to action at home tomorrow against AIB in a double header. The games are set for 1:00 and 3:30 p.m.
