The Northwood softball team split with NCAA Division 2 Palm Beach Atlantic on Thursday afternoon. The Seahawks fell in game one 5-0, and winning game two 3-1.
Nicole Granitto retired the first nine batters including five strikeouts before Palm Beach Atlantic got on the board in the fourth for a 1-0 lead. The Sail Fish added three more runs in the fifth and one in sixth for a 5-0 lead. The Seahawks threatened in the bottom half with Shanah Thomas reaching on a single and Cassidy Miller by an error. Both runners moved up to second and third with no outs, however Northwood was unable to capitalize falling in the game 5-0.
In game two, Katlyn Strauss tripled to right center in the second inning platting two runs for a 2-0 lead. Palm Beach Atlantic cut the deficit in half in the fifth with a run making it 2-1. Northwood added a run in the sixth on a wild pitch winning 3-1.
Anne Diercks picked up the win throwing a complete game. Meagan Flores had a team high two hits.
With the split, Northwood improves to 14-8-1 overall
The Seahawks return to action tomorrow afternoon for a doubleheader against Concordia Ann Arbor. The games are set for 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
