Softball Splits With #23 Davenport

The Northwood softball team split in their doubleheader against #23 Davenport on Friday afternoon. The Seahawks fell in game one 11-2 in five innings before outlasting the Panthers 11-10 in 12 innings.

In game two, Alyssa Cabral led the game off with a triple and scored on an RBI single by Cassidy Miller for the early 1-0 led. Allie Catapano pushed the final run of the inning across with an RBI groundout to second base making it 2-0. Davenport cut the lead in half with a run in the second, but the Seahawks regained the run in the bottom half on a Miller homerun to left center making it 3-1. The Seahawks tacked two more runs on in the fifth inning pushing their advantage to 5-1.

Cabral walked and Shanah Thomas hit by pitch before both runners moved up a base on a wild pitch. An Alex Hartley RBI single to left center and a sacrifice fly by Catapano to left field made it 5-1. However, Davenport tied the game at 5-5 in the in the sixth inning.

Davenport took their first lead of the game in eighth inning at 6-5, however Meagan Flores doubled to deep center scoring Miller knotting it at 6-6. Again the Panthers jumped in front 7-6 in the ninth, but a Jaime Schiller RBI fielder's choice again tied the game at 7-7. In the tenth, Davenport made it 8-7, but a sacrifice fly Catapano tied it at 8-8. The Panthers tacked on two runs in the 11th pushing out to a 10-8 margin, when back to back singles by Miller and Hartley knotted it at 10-10. The Seahawks went on to win the game in the bottom of 12th on an RBI single by Tara Coletti up the middle scoring Hartley winning the game 11-10.

Flores picked up the win pitching six innings in relief, striking out three batters. Hartley led the way with four hits, while Miller and Cabral had three hits each.

During game one, Davenport scored six runs in the second and five runs in the third making it 11-0 before Northwood got two runs on the board in the fourth. Miller, Hartley, Catapano all singled to load the bases up. Schiller then walked scoring the first run and a RIB single to right by Cabral made it 11-2. However, Northwood got no closer falling in five innings.

With the split, Northwood moves to 4-3-1 overall. The Seahawks return to the field tomorrow taking on Cornerstone in Clermont. The games are set for 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
